Community Giving Is Part of the Mission

At The Mars Agency, we have a mission to make a positive impact across a “Triple Bottom Line,” which focuses on growth for our clients, growth for our people, and growth for our community. To support the many communities we are a part of, we created Start Small, our community volunteer initiative. Our goal is 100% employee participation in at least one of the program’s three pillars:
Quarterly events hosted by our local offices;
Martian Missions, in which employees apply for up to 160 hours of time to support a cause of their choice;
Individual Personal Volunteer Days.
Recently, our Chicago office had the opportunity to partner with UCAN, a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to building strong youth and families through compassionate healing, education, and empowerment. The organization impacts over 21,000 at-risk youths across Illinois through a multitude of services, such as K-12 schooling, foster care placement and workforce development.
One of UCAN’s most successful and growing programs is their annual holiday gift drive. After receiving a record number of gift requests, UCAN looked to The Mars Agency for help with rebranding the event to attract more donations and volunteer participation. We presented three conceptual approaches to the organization, with a "Gift Train" theme bringing a holiday feel to the familiar image of the Chicago train ultimately being chosen. Our creative team put together a handful of deliverables, including graphics for social media and email, a flyer, and a new home page banner.
